What is a Homestay?
A homestay allows students to rent a room from a local family in a homelike setting. It is generally used by students to improve language skills and become familiar with the local lifestyle, while hosting a homestay student allows the family to earn income. By experiencing family life with their hosts, students are more fully immersed into the local culture and are provided with relaxed conversation opportunities. Students enjoy the safety and comfort of home in addition to having an ideal environment for study. American Family Homestay’s are much more than room rentals, they are a home away from home for our students.
AFH has been established to provide safe, quality homes for students studying in America. Hosting international students is an incredible opportunity to make new friends from all around the world and we encourage interested families to share in the experience.
Through our experiences we understand that families hoping to host a student for the first time have many questions as to what they can expect. With these in mind we’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions and initial host family concerns. Though we have tried to make the list as helpful as possible, if you have a question which is not answered in our FAQ’s please do not hesitate to contact us through email or phone. We will be more than happy to answer any outstanding questions and provide you with as much information as you need to feel comfortable with the entire process.
